Jewelry Care Guide

At Statements Ownly, each piece is thoughtfully crafted using carefully selected metals chosen to suit the sculptural form, durability, and finish of the design.

We currently work with:

  • Copper
  • Brass
  • Stainless Steel with Titanium Coating
  • Gold Vermeil

Our plating techniques include:

  • Copper & Brass — finished with Electroplating
  • Stainless Steel — finished with PVD Gold Plating for enhanced durability
  • Gold Vermeil — crafted with a thick layer of gold over sterling silver

The metal used for each piece is listed in the product description to help you choose the piece best suited to your lifestyle and preferences.

Our Materials

Copper (Electroplated)

Selected for bold forms and artistic statement designs, copper is lightweight, versatile and ideal for sculptural jewelry.

What to know:

  • Copper may naturally oxidize over time, especially when exposed to moisture, perfumes, sweat, and air.
  • This is normal and can be minimized with proper care.

Care

  • Keep dry and avoid moisture
  • Avoid perfume, lotions and oils
  • Store in a pouch or jewelry box after wear
  • Wipe gently with a soft cloth after use
  • Remove before swimming, bathing or exercise

Extra care tip:
Electroplated finishes can wear with friction over time, so treat plated surfaces gently.

Brass (Electroplated)

Brass offers strength, warmth and structure, making it ideal for many of our statement silhouettes.

What to know:

  • Brass can naturally develop a patina over time.
  • Electroplating enhances its finish and brilliance, but like all plated jewelry, it benefits from mindful wear.

Care

  • Store separately to prevent scratches
  • Keep away from water and chemicals
  • Put jewelry on last when dressing
  • Clean gently with a soft dry cloth
  • Remove before intense activity or perspiration

Over time, brass may naturally develop character—part of its beauty.

Stainless Steel with Titanium Coating (PVD Gold Plating)

These pieces are crafted using PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) gold plating over stainless steel with titanium coating—a premium process known for exceptional durability.

Why we love it:

  • Highly durable
  • Tarnish resistant
  • More scratch resistant than traditional plating
  • Excellent for everyday wear

Care

  • Clean gently with a soft cloth
  • Dry thoroughly after contact with water
  • Avoid harsh chemicals and chlorine
  • Store separately to protect the finish

Many of our PVD pieces are designed for everyday wear and are more resilient than traditional gold-plated jewelry.

Gold Vermeil

Gold vermeil offers the richness of fine jewelry with the artistry of contemporary design. Unlike standard gold plating, vermeil features a thick layer of gold over sterling silver, offering greater longevity and value.

Why we love it

  • Fine jewelry quality
  • Rich gold finish
  • Sterling silver base
  • Ideal for elevated everyday wear

Care

  • Avoid water, perfume, lotions and harsh chemicals
  • Remove before showering, swimming or exercise
  • Store in a dry pouch or jewelry box
  • Gently polish with a soft jewelry cloth
  • Wear often, but handle with care to preserve the gold layer

Gold vermeil can last beautifully for years with mindful care.
