Some Collections begin with a sketch.
FUTURO began with a conversation.
As I was curating pieces and designing others for what would eventually become FUTURO, I found myself repeatedly drawn to forms that felt both ancient and futuristic. Sculptural silhouettes, intricate cutouts, bold curves, and organic shapes kept appearing throughout the collection. At the time, I simply followed my intuition, unaware that something much deeper was guiding the process.
Then one day, during a conversation with my father, he shared something he had never told me before.
My great-grandfather was a goldsmith. I was stunned!
Although creativity and craftsmanship have always been part of my story, I had never known that jewelry-making existed within my own lineage. As we spoke, my father began recounting stories of pieces my great-grandfather had crafted by hand, including jewelry he made for his daughter, my grandmother, when she came of age and later when she was preparing for marriage.
As I showed him some of the pieces I had carefully curated and others I was in the process of creating for FUTURO, something remarkable happened. He shared pictures of some of my grandmother’s jewelry he had access to and begun pointing out similarities. I saw it too!

Not exact copies, nor intentional recreations, but familiar forms, proportions, and design details that reminded him of pieces his grandfather had made decades earlier. The resemblance was so striking that it felt as though a conversation had been taking place across generations without me even knowing it.

What started as a collection suddenly became something much more personal.
FUTURO became a bridge between heritage and imagination.
The collection explores an Afro-futuristic vision of adornment, one that honours where we come from while daring to imagine where we are going. It embraces the belief that the future is not disconnected from the past. Rather, it is built upon it.
Looking back, I now see FUTURO differently. The pieces I curated and the pieces I created were not simply selected because they were beautiful. They were connected by a shared spirit, one that reflects craftsmanship, legacy, and the enduring power of storytelling through design.
Perhaps that is why the collection feels so familiar and yet so new.
It is a tribute to the future, inspired by a past I had only just discovered, And in many ways, it feels like coming home.
I am delighted to share FUTURO with you. More than a collection, it is a celebration of heritage, creativity, and the unexpected ways our stories find their way back to us. My hope is that as you wear these pieces, you will find your own connection to them, whether through their bold forms, their symbolism, or the stories they inspire.
Thank you for being part of this journey and for allowing Statements Ownly to become part of yours.
Welcome to FUTURO.
